I am passionate about vision correction and bringing visual freedom to people. My journey in medicine started in Pretoria, South Africa, where I completed my MD degree. My love of Ophthalmology was kindled during what we refer to as internship and community service years here in South Africa. The satisfaction I gained when operating people blind from white cataracts, see the next day, and singing in utter joy was a life changing moment. I knew then that I wanted to empower people through improving their vision. I completed my South African College of Ophthalmology Fellows degree (Cum Laude) ,and my MMed degree through the University of the Orange Free State. I was privileged to be awarded the Dean's medal for the top post-graduate student across all faculties in medicine. After 5 years in private practice and general Ophthalmology, I completed a 2 year fellowship in refractive surgery with Mr Arthur Cummings in Dublin, Ireland. This was the second life changing moment in my career, and I have come back to South Africa to provide a revised level of refractive thinking and care that was instilled in my whist abroad. I am immensely honoured to be a founding member of the WCRS-VS and one of the inaugural fellows, and find the RSA( Refractive Surgery Alliance) forum an invaluable community to be part of. Dedicating one's life to vision correction is not something we stumble upon. It's a journey, a path to self enlightenment, passion for what you do, and truly harnessing the power of changing quality of life through vision correction.
