Dr. Omid Kermani was born in Germany in 1960. He is married and has four children, two boys and two girls. The Kermani family lives in Cologne, Germany. Dr. Kermani studied medicine in Germany and in part in New Zealand. He received his ophthalmologic education at the university hospitals in Bonn (1987 -1991 with Prof. M.U. Dardenne) and in Köln (1991 – 1993 with Prof. K. Heimann). He is co-founder, CEO and consultant for cataract and refractive surgery at the Augenklinik am Neumarkt in Cologne, Germany (FRG), where he performs more than 5.000 surgical procedures every year. As a scientific fellow Dr. Kermani was first in touch with Excimer Laser technology in 1987. Since then he has contributed numerous publications with high impact in the field of laser application in ophthalmology. He is funded and supported by the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft (DFG). As a medical consultant to the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) he was in charge for „Femtonik“ projects evolving new femtosecond laser technologies for ophthalmic application. Dr. Kermani is founder of the Laserforum e.V., a private research association that supports developments in laser and microsurgery of the eye. Since 1993 Dr. Kermani has organised 30 annual national eye surgery symposia in Cologne, known as „Kölner Adventssymposium“ including numerous „live-surgery“ events. Dr. Kermani is consultant and medical advisor to numerous national and international eye care companies.
